Ideas for use in a large Kitchen Diner
Share
In a large room, there will be different use areas - food preparation, eating and then relaxing - these will benefit from different approaches for example the food preparation area may always want lighting when you are present however you may want a different lighting scene when relaxing in the evening.
The example we have used has these 3 distinct areas and initially all were served using a mWave presence sensor however it soon became clear that the all or nothing approach needed refinement and so the mWave was place in the ceiling over the food preparation area to turn on lights over the island, under the cabinets and over the sink as well as a couple of table lamps around the room. The detection range was reduced so that it was not triggered by presence in the dining / relaxing areas.
The lamps over the dining and relaxing areas we then linked to a Smart Hub Mini with the switches being set to turn the lamps on and off with the 3rd switch being linked to an automation which turned all lights off.
To add flexibility, scenes were created which dimmed lights over the table and sofa and turned off island lights to create a softer mood for watching TV in the evening - this was added to the home screen of the Hub Mini for easy recall.
