Scenes & Automations

Scenes are great tools for automating functions BUT don't try and automate everything.
A well designed system will have a combination of automations and Tap to Run scenes - for example in our house we have a presence sensor whcih detects when a room is in use and turns on multiple lights, however this room opens out onto a patio and when sitting outside at night in an area not covered by the presence sensor, the lights will turn off, so to stop this a routine was created which is triggered by a wall switch - this will overide the automation and allows the lights to stay on.
Keep the number key scenes to a minimum and give them simple names - here are a few suggestions
- Bedtime
- Going Out
- Home
Keep the names simple means they can easily be used with Alexa or Google and their function is obvious if used with a Hub.
